More than 100 years of history for Reebok sneakers

The Reebok company or Reebok International Limited was first founded under the name J. W. Foster and Sons in 1895 in Bolton, England. At that time, Joseph William Foster, its founder, was one of the first to design athletic shoes with spikes: he thus made Reebok an innovative sports equipment manufacturer, to the delight of demanding athletes. Originally handcrafted, the British brand's sneakers quickly became the footwear of sports stars such as the participants in the 1924 Summer Olympics. It was not until 1958 that Reebok acquired its definitive name, derived from that of a variety of South African antelope called "rhebok" in Afrikaans. An animal embodying speed, the antelope then represented the performance of Reebok sportswear shoes and their total adequacy with the needs of the most experienced athletes.
